A message from the Mayor regarding fireworks and Fourth of July celebrations

The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for Skamania and surrounding counties in effect until 2300 Wednesday for very dry and significantly unstable conditions for fire weather. As the Fourth of July approaches, and in light of the ongoing fire, it is the perfect time to talk about safety and common sense as we plan our Independence Day celebrations.

The discussion of fireworks safety is front and center.  We recognize that many families purchase and use personal fireworks to celebrate Independence Day.

As you plan your holiday weekend and use of fireworks, there are many things to consider.

Consider the safety of your family, your home, and your neighborhood.

Consider prevailing conditions and temperatures.

Consider the lives of first responders.

Consider a self-imposed ban on the use of personal fireworks. Save them for New Years and attend the public display.

Above all else, let common sense rule the day for ALL your activities.

If it doesn't feel safe, don't do it.

Scott Anderson

Mayor, City of Stevenson
