The City of Stevenson is excited to expand our team!
The City of Stevenson is hiring a City Planner to guide the City’s land use, development, and long-range community growth. This professional planning role is responsible for interpreting and enforcing the Comprehensive Plan, zoning code, and other state-mandated land use regulations, while also leading strategic initiatives on housing, economic development, and sustainability.
We’re looking for a candidate who can balance technical expertise with strong communication and community engagement skills, ensuring that the City’s planning processes are clear, inclusive, and forward-thinking.
Key Responsibilities
● Review and process land use applications including subdivisions, variances, conditional use permits, annexations, and rezonings.
● Administer land use regulations under the Comprehensive Plan, zoning code, Critical Areas Ordinance, shoreline program, SEPA, and GMA.
● Prepare public notices, staff reports, and recommendations for the Planning Commission, Hearing Examiner, and City Council.
● Lead or assist with long-range planning initiatives such as affordable housing, ADUs, economic development, and hazard mitigation.
● Coordinate review processes with City departments, county, state, federal, and tribal partners.
● Serve as staff liaison to the Planning Commission and other advisory bodies.
● Support grant opportunities, records management, and GIS/permit tracking systems.
Minimum Qualifications
● Bachelor’s degree in urban or regional planning, geography, environmental studies, or related field.
● At least three (3) years of progressively responsible planning experience (municipal/public sector preferred).
● Valid driver’s license.
● Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
● Master’s degree in Planning, Public Administration, or related field.
● American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification.
● Experience with Washington State planning frameworks (GMA, SEPA, SMA).
● Experience with housing policy, climate resiliency, or economic development planning.
