Project consists of working with the Stevenson Downtown Association and Skamania County on constructing a plaza in front of the courthouse and establishing a long-term maintenance agreement.

Status Updates
April 2024 - There was an Open house on April 16th for the community to view revised designs, ask questions, and provide feedback through an online survey. The link to the survey is https://understory.surveysparrow.com/s/untitled/tt-dwNHRUeiKQUQ5bBY8wvAr5 and will be open until April 30th. A copy of the designs presented at the Open House are on this page.
November 2023 - A flyer was sent out to all county residents with information on the project and the December 1st event to gather input on design options. The link to the online survey is closed and was available from December1-22, 2023.
October 2023 - The Kick-Off meeting with stakeholders took place early in the month where general design elements, budget, and public engagement topics were discussed. A flyer will be distributed to Skamania County property owners with information about the project and design concepts will be presented to the public in conjunction with Christmas in the Gorge the first weekend in December.
August 2023 - The city has contracted with Understory Landscape Architecture, LLC for Phase 1 Design Services. The schedule for this phase will be 6 months and will include the delivery of a schematic design for the plaza. Phase 2 will include further design development, construction documentation and land use permitting for the plaza with an end date of December 31, 2024.
March 2023 - The City will be the recipient of a $147,000 direct state appropriation to move the project forward from conceptual plans to engineered construction plans for a shovel ready project. In conjunction with this, the city will be creating a Parks Plan in preparation for a 2024 Recreation and Conservation Office grant application. The next step after signing the agreement is to contract with a consultant for the work.
December 2022 - An interlocal agreement between the City and the County for maintenance of the Courthouse Plaza once the project is complete, and for immediate possession to complete the design and construction of the project has been signed. This agreement will allow the City to manage the project in concert with the Stevenson Downtown Association and the County. The next steps are to transition a state earmark from the Stevenson Downtown Association to the City and move forward with completing the design phase of the project.
2020 - Latest RCO grant application not successful. The next application round will be in 2022. Draft agreement for future maintenance with Skamania County in process.
