Project consists of a two-lane asphalt roadway flanked by unconnected sections of sidewalk. Improving this corridor is intended as a catalyst project as outlined in the 2019 Downtown Plan.

Status Updates

October 2022 - The city began working with Maul Foster & Alongi, Inc. (MFA) to assist with the Columbia Avenue right-of-way realignment design and additional soil sampling to understand the environmental impacts in the area. You may see MFA staff collecting samples in the area between October 25 and 27. Attached is a map of the approximate sampling locations. 

MFA is continuing the design work for the right-of-way improvements and would like your input. The city will be hosting an open house to get community input on the right-of-way improvement design as well as the scale of potential future development. Please mark you calendar for:

May 2022 - The project will kick off in June with MFA engaged as the consultant. The feasibility analysis is on track to be completed by June 2023.


 

September 2021 - Approving contracts for the consultant, MFA, are on the September 16, 2021 agenda for approval. A meeting with stakeholders is scheduled for September 22, 2021.


 

June 2021 - The city’s application for the Department of Ecology’s (DOE's) Integrated Planning Grant was approved. DOE recommends obtaining a consultant to establish the scope of work for the grant contract. An RFP will be published to solicit a consultant. Contracts for a consultant and the grant will be in the June or July council meetings.
